The Invisible To-Do List Nobody Else Seems to See

Okay ladies, real talk for a minute.

Have you ever noticed that even when everyone in the house is "helping," you're still the one who knows everything? You know when the dentist appointments are. You know you're almost out of dish soap. You know your mother-in-law's birthday is Thursday and someone should probably order a card. You know which kid (or grandkid) is going through something and needs a little extra love this week.

Nobody assigned us this job. There was no meeting. No vote. Somewhere along the way, we just became the keeper of ALL the things — the schedules, the feelings, the groceries, the remembering.

And here's the part that gets me: when we finally do ask for help, we somehow end up managing the help too. Writing the list. Explaining the list. Checking the list got done. That's not delegating, friend. That's just project managing for free.

I…

The Two Feelings Nobody Tells You Come Together

Can we talk about something I'm right in the middle of?

I'm in the empty nest season — and nobody warned me it would feel like two things at once.

Some days the quiet hits me out of nowhere. I miss the everyday stuff — the random kitchen talks, the "hey Mom" from the other room, just having them around. I didn't realize how much I'd ache for that one-on-one time until it got rarer.

And then… right alongside that ache… is this huge, swelling pride. Because I'm watching them build lives of their own. Real lives. The whole point of everything I poured in — and here it is, happening. 💛

That's the part nobody tells you: the sad and the proud don't take turns. They show up holding hands. And somehow you learn to feel both without one canceling the other out.

So I want to open this up,…

🎉 Look who just pulled up!

Everybody give a big New Roads welcome to our two newest members — Gina and J Paulk! We're so glad you found your way to The Open Road Forum. 💛

Here's the thing about this space: it only gets good when we actually talk to each other. So let's make it easy.

Gina & J — drop a comment below and tell us one thing: what road are you on right now? Starting something new, figuring it out, or just here for the conversation? No wrong answers.

And everybody else — don't leave them hanging! Say hi, share a little something, make them feel at home. You were the new one once too. 😉

We're all just figuring it out together — that's the whole point. Welcome aboard, ladies. Let's ride. 🛣️

Dating Again… or Choosing Peace?

This week’s episode goes there. We’re talking about what really happens after a long marriage ends—when one woman steps back into dating with her eyes wide open, and the other says, “Nope. I’m choosing my peace.”

This isn’t about fixing anyone or pushing women to “get back out there.” It’s about the messy middle: relearning who you are without being someone’s wife, noticing red flags you didn’t even know existed before, and being honest if dating just feels like emotional labor you are not willing to do.

Your turn: • Are you open to dating again—or protecting your peace at all costs? • What scares you more right now: being alone, or choosing wrong again? • If you’re honest with yourself, what season are you actually in?

You don’t owe anyone a relationship timeline or an explanation. Share whatever you’re comfortable sharing in the comments—raw, real, and without judgment.
